DESICOM

The goal of the DESICOM project is to design and simulate photonic components with a focus on the optical multiplexers/demultiplexers (MUX/DeMUX) based on Arrayed Waveguide Gratings (AWG) together with the optical splitters based on multimode interference (MMI) and Y-branch splitting. To this end 3 different commercial software tools will be used and the achieved results will be evaluated and compared with one another. Some standard designs will be also used to evaluate the software tools and these simulation results will be compared with the experimental measurements. As a next step a feasibility study on the fabrication of the designed components in the research centre for microtechnology will be carried out. Based on this study the fabrication process methodology will be developed to enable the first prototyping.
