Master's degree programme for professional specialisation and personal development
After 11 years of professional practice, Thomas Scherner returned to the lecture hall. The social worker is currently studying Social Work at the FHV in addition to working at the Innsbruck University Clinic. Building on his diploma at the Academy for Social Work, he is now obtaining a master's degree in his specialisation of "Clinical Social Work."
"I decided to enter this master's degree programme to expand my professional prospects. Furthermore, I would like to continue my education on a scientific level and address the subject of clinical social work in more depth," says Thomas Scherner, explaining his motivation. The 36-year-old man has already taken postgraduate courses in this field. In the master's degree programme, he sees a good opportunity to reflect and further expand on his professional experience.
Despite the double load, Thomas Scherner really enjoys studying again. "It lies not only on the interesting content of the degree programme, but also on the very comfortable atmosphere among students." As in all part-time degree programmes, they come from very different professional fields and for this reason can also bring different perspectives to the lectures and seminars. "The lecturers intelligently combine this input with the course contents. That brings it close to real life. Furthermore, there is a very pleasant atmosphere at the FHV, and studying offers me a nice change from my daily work in the clinic."
"After 11 years of professional experience, it is really fun to study again. Besides learning more in the field, I view the degree programme as another step in my personal development."
