Profile of the programme

In the industrial engineering course holistically thinking generalists are trained as creative lateral thinkers and intercultural realists to have a special place in the interfaces between technology and business.

Industrial engineers

... are:

  • creative generalists in business and technology,
  • problem solvers and integrators with interdisciplinary vision,
  • specialists at interfaces.

... can:

  • assess inter-department correlations,
  • meet difficult, complex requirements at the interface between business and technology,
  • shape and optimise the commercial, technical and social processes in a company.

 ...have:

  • commercial knowledge and technical know-how,
  • interdisciplinary problem-solving competence,
  • strong social and methodological skills.

Course content in detail

Modular structure
The course is designed to be both interdisciplinary and combined and this helps to promote both commercial and technical ways of thinking in one. Topics from individual areas are defined in terms of training units, so-called modules. Within each module there are concrete teaching units which can be seen in the teaching plan.

Engineering technology

Courses such as technical physics, mechanics, chemical process engineering and the fundamentals of regenerative energy systems are planned as the foundation for the engineering degree programme. The focus of the courses is in the area of electrical engineering/electronics/power engineering.

Application-oriented subjects such as innovative materials and production processes as well as production and system technology form another focal point in the course of the programme.

Fundamentals of engineering

  • Technical physics
  • Technical mechanics and strength of materials
  • Chemical process engineering
  • Fundamentals of regenerative energy systems

Construction and production technology

  • Design (CAD)
  • Production technologies
  • Flexible production systems
  • Automatisation
  • PLC controllers

Electrical engineering

  • Fundamentals, propulsion technology, photovoltaic

Components

Systems engineering

  • Digital and microprocessor technology
  • Measurement technology, RFID technology

Interdisciplinary integration

This "general study" provides more in-depth, supplementary and entirely new perspectives on the main processes of a company as well as general educational subjects. Applied process management forms the base.

The students receive the opportunity to make their choices from the range of offered lectures, seminars and workshops in accordance with their focal points and interests.

The content of these modules is always updated and designed by the research centres at our university, by experienced university lecturers and highly qualified experts in companies. These modules are completed with complementary bachelor work.

Examples of possible content:

Product development and innovation

Innovation management, idea management, stage gate process, product design/industrial design, process management, patent law, product configuration, rapid prototyping, CAD technologies, virtual reality, usability, e-strategy development, management of technical system development, economic history, business ethics.

Winning contracts, completing orders, customer service and support

Innovative production processes, process cost calculation, e-business, ECR, customer loyalty, m-business, energy efficiency, complaint management, innovative waste management logistics, event logistics, corporate management, BA simulation, education, manners, career.
