Specific admission requirements

For a degree programme in Mechatronics at the FH Vorarlberg, you must meet formal and personal requirements.

Formal admission requirements

  • general university entrance examination or
  • university study entitlement examination or
  • specialist apprenticeship with additional examinations or
  • German university entrance qualification (subject specific) with additional examinations

Knowledge of German and English at the Matura level (Austrian general qualification for university entrance) is a prerequisite for admission to the degree programme.

For Matura holders with subject-specific HTL (technical college degree), the individual crediting of specific courses for the degree programme is possible. In the event of special credits such as passed with merit and passed with distinction, entry can also take place in the middle of the first year of the degree programme. This is to be discussed individually with the Head of the Degree Programme.

Additional examinations and study entitlement examination
This provides the opportunity to study at a university or FH without having a Matura. Johannes-Kepler University in Linz offers a university course to prepare for this study entitlement examination - this course is held at the Bregenz European Study Centre. Online courses are also possible.

Mathematics and physics
Mathematics and physics are of central importance in the degree programme and in professional life. For this reason, great attention is paid to intensive and good training in mathematics and physics in the courses for the additional examinations, the study entitlement examination or the vocational university entrance examination.

Personal requirements

Students of Mechatronics should have an interest in getting to the bottom of things. They need the ability to imagine something before it actually exists. Mechatronic engineers design, solve and critically question problems. They are curious how and why something functions. They think analytically, logically and abstractly.

The FH Vorarlberg's expectations for its students

The FH Vorarlberg expects that students are interested in receiving an exceptional education and will also perform at such a level.

It is also expected that applicants are trained in the subjects of English, mathematics and physics on the Matura level.

And it is expected that they identify with their degree programme and are active in the field outside the curriculum.
