CHE University Ranking

(Press release from 6 May 2010) The degree programme in Mechatronics at the FH Vorarlberg makes the top group in the international ranking of universities

62 Mechatronics degree programmes in Germany, Austria and Switzerland were examined and evaluated in the largest ranking of universities in the German-speaking zone.

The FH Vorarlberg was given an outstanding evaluation and ranked in the top group, among the best 10 universities.

The CHE ranking is conducted annually by the Centre for University Development (Centrum für Hochschulentwicklung). It provides a complete overview of the offers and quality of the university system in the entire German speaking zone. The strengths and weaknesses of the universities and FHs are made public and should help with the selection of the place to study.

This year, engineering was examined, which also includes the degree programme in Mechatronics. “Facts concerning the department and university as well as evaluations by students and professors are determined for the ranking. This results in up to 30 indicators per department,” explains Dr. Heidrun Schöch, who is in charge of quality at the FH Vorarlberg, which handles the coordination of the CHE rankings for universities throughout Austria.

The FH Vorarlberg was ranked in the top group in almost all categories with its degree programme in Mechatronics and thus occupied one of the top places in the ranking. The evaluation took place on a scale of 1 (very good) to 6 (very bad). The final mark for the FH Vorarlberg was 1.7!

"This outstanding evaluation is the result of our effort to provide the highest quality, said the Head of the Degree Programme DI Dr. Johannes Steinschaden. “The success is naturally thanks to all those who collectively support the degree programme. Personal advisers and the outstanding resources at the FH Vorarlberg create a positive learning environment and are the basis for the success of our students.”

In comparison to all other university schools, the bachelor's degree programme in Mechatronics at the FH Vorarlberg obtained top scores for the following indicators:

  • laboratory equipment (1.1)
  • space (1.1)
  • e-learning (1.4)
  • library resources (1.5)
  • integration in learning evaluation (1.5)
  • study organisation (1.6)
  • and support by teachers (1.6)

The international orientation of the FH Vorarlberg also received very high marks.

The good results of the FH Vorarlberg as compared to other Austrian universities and above all in comparison to the numerous German universities are a very pleasing development for Vorarlberg. “The CHE ranking is confirmation of the high standard for the degree programme in Mechatronics and thus the related training quality, and this is even more impressive in the international environment of academic training at the FH Vorarlberg," explains Rector DI Rudi Feurstein. “It shows that we succeed in flexibly addressing the practical requirements of the economy and the development of the department."
