The typical study day

Didactic diversity with a mixture of methods will determine your study day in Computer Science.

Broad spectrum of courses

The degree programme is defined by proven approaches such as project work in small groups, case studies and exercises - and methods that prepare students particularly intensively for professional life - self-organised, problem-based learning methods and team-oriented project work.

Support through e-learning and blended learning options is facilitated by the web-based learning platform LMS.

Attendance, group work

Attendance at the university is required for approx. 20 hours per week. You alternate between lectures, classes and integrated courses. There is also regular homework in the programme during the first three semesters. The small group sizes (12-18 students) usually mean that you develop learning partnerships that support mutual learning success right from the beginning. The projects in the 4th and 5th semester are handled in a team; the coordination of the teams is assumed by the students themselves; an independent project management coach is however available for problems.

Examples for study situations

  • Programming training in the first semester: The programming training takes place as part of an integrated course; the students themselves sit at the computer, and the theoretical concepts introduced by the professor are implemented immediately afterwards on the computer

  • Software project: Object-oriented analysis and design in the 4th semester: The students work in teams of 4-5 people; each team has its own coach. A client-server software package is developed. Typical examples are: hotel reservation system, calendar application for eye doctor offices, schedule for orchestra musician, diet assistant.

  • Case study in the 5th semester on the subject of Enterprise Computing: The students create a network environment and also start it up. Afterwards, a web application is developed and operated in the network environment under various load conditions.
