The activities of the Mechanical Lab (mLab) involve the areas of metrology, production engineering and material testing. One focus is on the manufacturing of complex turned and milled parts. A serial and a parallel-kinematics milling centre and a turning milling centre with driven tools are available for 5-axes-manufacturing. The programming of these machines using CAM is also part of the work done by the laboratory, as is reverse engineering using 3D-digitalisation.

Focal points:

  • Digitalisation and reverse engineering
  • 3D coordinate measurement
  • Material testing
  • CAD/CAM and NC simulation
  • Machine diagnosis

Areas of responsibility:

  • 3- and 5-axes-simultaneous-manufacturing – milling
  • Manufacturing of complex turned parts
  • Tool management and tool setting
  • Investigation of vibration at machine tools
  • Measuring of CNC-axes at machine tools
  • Measuring of work pieces
  • Determination of geometrical and positioning errors
  • Digitalisation of surfaces
  • Material analysis
  • Hardness testing
  • Tensile, pressure and bending test
