Areas of responsibility, objectives and activities Department of Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science (DCS) is a significant part of the Faculty of Engineering and is responsible for teaching for all courses, research and development and transfer in business and society in the field of computer science and mathematics at the Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences. All university lecturers and academic staff at the Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences in these disciplines are assigned to the DCS. The structure, development and operation of the teaching laboratories, which are linked to these disciplines, are the responsibility of the DCS.

The international orientation of the DCS is proven through collaborations with various institutions in and outside Europe. Professional exchange, the further development and didactic reflection characterize the context of individual actions in the organizational unit.

Teaching 

As part of the successful, application-oriented Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences, the range of courses is continuously actively designed and adapted to the economic needs and developments of the region. While playing the academic scientific background as well as the industrial and business experience of university teachers an essential role.

Timeliness is through scientific activities and international networking and ensures close cooperation with business and society, combining teaching with research and development as well as with transfer.

Various events, the exchange among themselves or shadowing support the continued educational development process under consideration of the respective priorities of the individual teachers and the diversity of students in the various study and training programs at the FH Vorarlberg.

Research and Development 

Research and development in the DCS is application-induced and yet at an academic level. R & D - initiatives are very often together with the existing research centers of Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences ( such as Business Informatics , User Centered Technologies, Digital Factory Vorarlberg) initiated and established. Sustainable, socially integrated development is taken into account. DCS sees itself as the engine of innovation in the areas of computer science, mathematics and business informatics in close cooperation with the research centers of the Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences.

 

Transfer

Further education, training, seminars, consulting, platforms as well as presentations, talks and events, tailored to the needs of the region, are offered – also in cooperation with renowned partner institutions from the national and international network – for business and society. If necessary, the experience from funding programs for economic implementation can be used for different formats.
