The project "Grid development - mission 2030" intends to prepare the electricity grid for imminent energy system transformation. Especially in the low-voltage grid, the advance of electric mobility, the increased use of heat pumps and the expansion of photovoltaics call for new concepts and technologies.

Project Goal

The electricity grids are the backbone of the energy supply and within Vorarlberg we can be proud of this backbone: we have one of the highest levels of supply security in all of Europe. In order to guarantee this in the future, Vorarlberg Netz launched the project "Grid development - mission 2030". In this project, experts have been working on solutions for future distribution networks in five sub-projects since April 2019. The Research Centre Energy is a scientific project partner and is responsible for simulating the distribution grids under future conditions. Based on the simulations, solutions for classic grid expansion are being investigated, as is the use of new and increasing digital technologies.
