Our Mission

The Research Ethics Committee (REC) of the Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences reviews research proposals that involve human participants to address ethical considerations and issues. The aim is to ensure that research proposals are ethically acceptable in accordance with relevant ethical standards and guidelines. The review process and vote conclude with the issuing of a REC ethical approval.

Submit a Proposal for an Ethics Review 

The University of Applied Sciences Vorarlberg staff member/s and students are eligible to apply for ethics review before data collection begins. Students affiliated with the Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences Master’s degree programmes are eligible to submit an ethics review application that includes the signature of the Master thesis or project supervisor.  

Research projects proposed by staff member/s of University of Applied Sciences Vorarlberg in cooperation with affiliated partner organisations is eligible for ethics review. It is conditional that the staff member of University of Applied Sciences Vorarlberg is significantly involved in the proposed research to be submitted for ethics review by the REC. 

Please ensure that the application for ethics review  is signed and submitted Application Form - either in person or scanned with a certified digital signature. Email applications can be submitted to katrin.paldan@fhv.at

To ensure that your application is processed before the start of the research project, please complete the submission at least six weeks prior to the start of the proposed research. 

To apply for the ethics review, please submit the following documentation: 

  • research proposal (briefly explain your research project) 
  • informed consent form (for participants to sign) 
  • written debriefing (when applicable) 
  • research instruments/tools (questionnaire or sample questions etc) 
  • declaration of previous ethics votes (when applicable)
