Within the research area Interaction Technologies, we from UCT Research devote ourselves to the development and optimisation of human machine interfaces. Hard- and software solutions must support users in achieving specified goals in a natural and easy way. A positive user experience throughout the interaction is key. Not only being able to achieve set goals is important, but also how humans feel throughout the process.

Nowadays, computers and machines are increasingly shifting towards the background, where they become invisible for humans (e.g. in smart homes, digital factories). This imposes special requirements on the design of such interactive systems. Therefore, our research is also directed towards the development and evaluation of new interaction concepts for these kind of systems.

Research and development involves the thematic areas:

  • Usability Engineering
  • User Experience
  • Embedded Sensing
  • Calm Computing
  • Physical Computing
  • Internet of Things
