Students gain experience with the fundamentals of drawing and sketching using a wide range of techniques (e.g. pencil, graphite, charcoal, chalk, India ink, ink, watercolour) and materials (e.g. drawing paper, transparent paper, watercolour paper, grey board, cardboard, canvas). Summary introductions and exercises provide the necessary input to allow students to then discover a graphic/experimental approach for their own study topic.

In this lab, students work in the areas of type, form, colour and pattern. Background knowledge in the field of typology, such as the history of writing, measurement systems, legibility, record types and proofreading characters form core elements. When it comes to form, everything from point to surface area is relevant. The topic of colour considers both digital and analogue aspects. Students work with colour from associative, emotional, factual and rational points of view. The topic of pattern presents what the term truly refers to, how it can be used and how to use it effectively.

Photography is more than just pressing the button on an iPhone. It is a highly creative medium through which it becomes possible to enact, document or relativize a subject. In this lab, basic skills of this art, such as time and blends, are taught alongside the technical aspects of studio photography and photography as a means for expression of moods and emotions.

Working with a website or device interactively requires the interplay between a software platform and an interface. Building or programming this interface requires mastering a set of tools. This lab offers students the opportunity to learn the basics of programming for designers and establishes the bridges between design and technology.
In addition, the lab provides students with the opportunity to design and build prototypes. Milling and grinding machines, soldering stations, 3D printers and lasers printers are available for this process.

Just as students in the InterMedia programme learn to work professionally with form, colour and type, the Text Lab offers students the opportunity to learn professional "play" with words. Methods of creative and reflective writing are also subjects that are presented and tried out. The Theory Lab offers one-on-one coaching with a foundation in basic epistemology.

This lab uses lectures, exercises and group discussions to teach the fundamentals of sound design and audio engineering so that students have the foundations to work on their own or open study projects in the audio field. The lab has it all: from sound recording in a studio context to experimenting with musical instruments (drums, guitars, base, synthesizers).

Motivational lectures and exercises in a variety of disciplines in the field of moving images provide the tools necessary for students to discover their own graphic/practical approach for a free study topic. Students can borrow the equipment required for realizing these projects at no charge.

This lab focuses on two key areas: 3D worlds and virtual reality. 3D computer graphics and animation opens the doors to endless creative opportunities, from visualising ideas and products to animation of virtual objects or characters to developing digital designs using 3D printing. This lab allows students to try out and experiment in the wide world of 3D graphics.
How is interactive and virtual content created and designed? What do modern devices such as smartphones, smart glasses and laser projectors have to offer in terms of perceiving the environment and enhancing our surroundings with digital design? How can the three-dimensional world around us be extended in real time with virtual information? How can games be conceptualised, developed and designed to help support and motivate us in our everyday and working lives? These and other questions about virtual design are the focus of the Virtual Reality Lab.
