Course content

Proceeding from the fundamentals of technical systems, this class treats the basic rules of design (simple, clear and secure), design principles (transmission of force, task splitting with similar and different functions, self-help, stability and bi-stability, error-free design) and design guidelines (expansion, creeping and relaxation, corrosion, ergonomics, forming, production, assembly, norms, maintenance, recycling etc.).

Learning outcomes

The class is part of the module on the fundamentals of design. In this module students learn to sketch simple components and component groups in space, and to produce and interpret complete technical drawings using CAD. Students design using the CAD system in three-dimensional space and have a command of boundary conditions, parametrics and history trees. They design machine elements according to the latest technology and are able to choose, apply and design these elements according to engineering principles.
