Course content

Three Main Topics:

  • Probability Theory: Definition of Probability, random variables (Mean, Variance, PDF and CDF, Independent Random Variables), Important Examples of Distributions, Law of Large Numbers, Central Limit theorem, Combinatorics; Random Vectors; Correlation
  • Descriptive Statistics: Scaling Properties, Parameters of Location and Dispersion, Bi- and Multivariate Statistics (Correlation- and Regression Analysis)
  • Inductive statistics: Distribution of Random Samples, Estimation of uncertainty, Hypothesis Testing.

Learning outcomes

The students develop fundamental understanding and knowledge of the subsections of probability theory and statistics specified in "Course Content". Based on these fundamentals they are able to acquire and understand more special topics of probability theory and statistics.
