Didactic concept at FH Vorarlberg

The core of the pedagogical concept at FH Vorarlberg is the training of competences among students using a student-centered approach. The following points are implemented in order to maximise the quality of knowledge transfer:

Dimensions for good teaching and learning at FH Vorarlberg

As a teacher ...

Competence orientation
… define the learning outcomes of your course and choose teaching and testing methods that allow students to achieve the learning outcomes.

Combining theory and practice
… ensure you offer a suitable mix of theory and practice, incorporate practical examples and analyse practical problems using a variety of theoretical models.

Learning from example
… utilise case studies and best-practice approaches to illustrate overriding principles and allow students enough liberty to engage in discussion of theoretical approaches and examples.

Internationalisation
… incorporate international perspectives in your teaching in the form of literature, international guest lecturers or field trips and promote "intercultural awareness" among the students. You are an integral part of our partner universities.

Feedback, Evaluation, Dialogue
… regularly evaluate your teaching, respectfully discuss suggestions for improvement with the students and provide them with feedback about their progress and accomplishments.

Diversity
… make use of a wide variety of didactic methods to reach out to different learning types, take gender and diversity aspects into account in your teaching and facilitate the students in experiencing different learning places and forms of organisation.

Error culture
… facilitate learning situations in which errors can be made, promote innovative thinking and ideas that may also fail and be prepared to try out new concepts yourself, accepting the risk of failure.

Media support
… utilise eLearning elements to further develop flexibility of educational opportunities in terms of space, time and content. Enhance the digital competence of the students.

As a student ...

Competence orientation
… know the learning objectives of the combination of the theory and practice for the courses you attend, orient yourself on these and play an active role in achieving them.

Combining theory and practice
… work independently towards developing theoretical points of view so that you can understand problems from practical situations that you yourself may contribute and reflect on the benefits of theoretical perspectives.

Learning from example
… participate actively in discussion of case studies, independently search for opportunities to transfer theoretical approaches and reflect these in dialogue with fellow students and teachers.

Internationalisation
… make English language literature, documents and other media a part of your every day student experiences, participate in international opportunities (field trips, semesters abroad etc.) and support incoming students as a buddy.

Feedback, Evaluation, Dialogue
… participate in the evaluation of courses that you take, provide the instructors with valuable feedback about your assessment of the learning outcomes and make us of the instructor's suggestions for your own development.

Diversity
… participate actively in lectures, be curious and contribute to a positive emotional teaching environment with your values. Recognise the diversity of opportunities in lectures, even if these do not match your own personal interests or focus.

Error culture
… be open to trying new things even if there is a risk of failure. Move away from your usual thought processes and reflect in a self-critical way on the "lessons learned".

Media support
… make use of the eLearning infrastructure of the ILIAS learning platform, work with the content there in preparation for attendance times in self-study and continue to develop your media competences and skills in the use of media.
