Course offerings in English in Computer Science - Software and Information Engineering, BSc

The 6th semester (spring/summer semester: last week of February to end of June) of the bachelor's degree programme Computer Science - Software and Information Engineering is taught exclusively in English and comprises mainly elective courses. Every elective course at FH Vorarlberg is open to all visiting students from our partner universities.

Courses offered in English

More than 50 ECTS of the courses in the bachelor’s degree programme Computer Science - Software and Information Engineering are taught in English. We ensure that all students are able to attend them by making sure that there are no timetable clashes with other courses.

FH Vorarlberg is noted for its small class sizes and the hands-on approach of its faculty to student supervision. Usually, about half of all students spend their 6th semester abroad. This means that about 15-17 students remain at FH Vorarlberg and are joined by students from our partner universities. Elective classes and elective seminars require a minimum of six students. Students are able to drop and add courses during the first week of the semester, after which learning agreements are fixed by FH Vorarlberg and the students’ universities and can no longer be changed.

In 2011, FH Vorarlberg was awarded the ECTS Label by the European Commission.

The ECTS Label is proof of a university’s correct implementation of ECTS guidelines as well as of the completeness and high quality of the information provided about course offerings and learning outcomes.

Individual Learning Agreement

Incoming students may choose from the following list of elective courses, seminars, Bachelor's thesis and language courses to design and complete their own individual learning agreement.

Bachelor’s Thesis

Regular 6th semester students are required to write a bachelor’s thesis and enrol in a thesis seminar. Incoming students interested in writing a thesis and enrolling in the seminar are most welcome to do so. Thesis topics are usually assigned in March. However, if any incoming students wish to write a thesis, we are happy to clarify thesis topics and nominate thesis supervisors earlier during the application process for incoming students.

English is taught in all six semesters of the bachelor’s degree programme in Computer Science. The focus of the English seminar in the 6th semester is intercultural communication. We particularly encourage incoming students to sign up for this course in order to foster and promote exchange between local and incoming students.

FH Vorarlberg also provides German courses that are aimed particularly at incoming students from our partner universities. The courses are divided into several levels. Students are assessed and placed into language groups during the welcome week. It is only possible to select one German course (except for German Advanced and German for Business).
