FH Vorarlberg has founded the Regional University Network ("RUN") with seven universities in Ireland, Portugal, the Netherlands, Hungary and Finland. The European Commission has appointed this network as a "European University". This initiative is a new form of close cooperation between higher education institutions in Europe. European universities consist of various university networks throughout the EU.

The members* of the RUN-EU alliance are dynamic universities that are strongly anchored in the region and at the same time with proven success and a high level of commitment to teaching and research. The focus is on technical universities and colleges, polytechnic institutes and universities of applied sciences, which share a common background in successful cooperation with industry and regional players in teaching and research.

A European University acts as a model for high quality teaching, research and innovation and also makes a valuable contribution to regional development.
Mag. Stefan Fitz-Rankl, Geschäftsführer der FH Vorarlberg

Future students will experience a Europe-wide networked university campus over the next few years. The network aims to create unrestricted mobility for students and faculty, academic staff and other employees as well as interregional European innovation centres that promote joint research activities with industry. In addition, student-centred and flexible European PhD degrees will be possible.

The RUN-EU alliance plans the following activities in the first 3 years:

  • Innovative and seamless mobility matrix
  • Inter-University Future and Advanced Skills Academies
  • Interregional European Innovation Hubs
  • Collaborative short advanced programmes at both graduate and post-graduate level
  • New student-centred collaborative and flexible graduate and postgraduate European degrees

* The RUN-EU consortium consists of the following higher education institutions:
Polytechnic of Leiria (Portugal), Polytechnic of Cavado and Ave (Portugal), Athlone IT (Ireland), Limerick IT (Ireland), NHL Stenden (Netherlands), HAMK (Finland), Széchenyi István University (Hungary) and FH Vorarlberg (Austria)
