The costs of education – both direct and indirect costs – are often the reason why education programs may not be utilised. The external association SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL - Club Dornbirn awards funding for child care costs subject to certain conditions. This funding supports parents and primarily single parents who would not otherwise be able to complete their studies without professional child care.

Requirements for eligible persons:

  • Studies at FH Vorarlberg
  • Residential address in Vorarlberg
  • Statutory requirement to care for and raise at least one child
  • Austrian nationality or nationality of a member state of the European Economic Area as well as foreign nationals on equal terms

Applications and documents:

  • Completed and signed application form
  • Statement on the reason for the application (presentation of the personal situation)
  • Confirmation on the granting of study assistance of the self-sustaining grant by the study assistance authority or proof of income
  • Evidence of the costs of the child care place at “Zwergengarten Kica” or a caregiver in Vorarlberg
  • Birth certificate of the child (copy)
  • Evidence of ordinary residence in Vorarlberg (municipal registration) 

The support can be requested for the child care costs and/or meal contributions at the child care centre.

Process, application deadline and contact

The decision on the provision of support is taken by the institutions involved. This decision primarily takes into account the personal and financial situation of the legal guardians. The amount of the grant is determined by the number of approved applications and the funding available. Each grant is provided for one year, with no entitlement of support in subsequent year(s). The grant is transferred directly to “Verein der Vorarlberger Tagesmütter” (Vorarlberg Association of Caregivers) and is credited each month. The grants are suspended if the requirements are no longer met. There is no right to legal recourse.

The application deadline is 15th June. A decision on the application is provided in mid-July.
