Course content |
- Selected nursing diagnoses on nutrition/liquids and excretion
- Transfer of course content from theory to practice
- Guided and independent, self-organised learning and exercise of skills and abilities in terms of general and special nursing activities
- Administration of medications including the preparation and administration of injections and infusions, full blood/blood components
- Simple wound care, applying and changing dressings, compresses and bandages
- Providing support for surgical wound care
- Preparation and follow-up care for surgery
- Removal of drainages, sutures and wound clamps
- Preparation, assistance and follow-up care for endoscopic procedures
- Insertion and removal of transnasal/transoral gastric tubes, drip feeding
- Changing percutaneous gastric exchange systems
- Administering enemas/rinsing
- Handling urinary diversion systems
- Inserting and removing transurethral catheters for urine drainage, instillation and rinsing and residual urine determination
- Changing suprapubic catheters
- Changing the dialysis solution during peritoneal dialysis
- Inserting and removing transnasal/transoral gastric tubes, drip feeding
- Providing information and instructions to patients

Learning outcomes |
Students
- will have fact, method and justification-based knowledge of objectives, mechanisms of action, methods of implementation, risks and complications of medical diagnosis and treatment when carrying out diagnostically or therapeutically relevant interventions and care techniques in patients of all ages
- will have mastered the skills, techniques and strategies that are necessary for the implementation of therapeutic and diagnostic measures in line with medical regulations
- will be able to instruct people on the acceptance of partial or full diagnostic or therapeutic measures based on their needs and requirements
- in line with the professional regulations and if instructed to do so will be able to carry out medical activities and bear responsibility for having done so
- will be able to recognise whether they have the necessary skill to carry out a task in line with medical regulations depending on the situation and make a decision on whether or not to take these on based on an awareness of the consequences under liability law, particularly with regard to negligence on admission
- will be able to provide an encouraging report on diagnostic and therapeutic measures
