Advantages of the degree programme Social Work

Theory and practice are interconnected

The degree programme is a practice-oriented vocational training at the higher education level. There is a balanced combination of theory and practice. This balance is achieved through self-directed, experiential, cooperative and problem-oriented learning and corresponding teaching and learning methods.

Learning through example

Through select areas of activity and case studies, you will acquire the knowledge, skills and points of view that will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of typical and real interconnection in social work.

International

The study programme has an international orientation: guest students from partner universities around the world, the opportunity to complete a semester at an institution in another country, short term study programmes and more are available to help you acquire intercultural competences. English is integrated as a language of instruction.

Intensive support through dialogue and in small groups

Intensive communication between teaching staff and students and enhanced cooperation among students are important factors that support your ability to criticise, reflect and argue.

The close connection between theory and practice is a foundation for the entire programme.

Innovative teaching and learning methods

The following methods are strengthened and developed throughout the programme:

  • Project work and case studies
  • Role playing and simulation games
  • Exercises
  • Individual coaching and learning team coaching
  • Discussions and open teaching dialogue
  • Excursions
  • Literature studies, editing of specialised texts and summarised academic publications
  • Learning through individual teaching (presentations)
  • "Good" lectures (with media support and interjected phases of individual and group work)
  • E-learning and blended-learning support
