Prerequisites for Incomings: Basic knowledge of Social Work (or related programmes such as Social Pedagogy)

Course content

Exploration and reflection of own biography (gender-based socialization, affiliations, etc.); Diversity as a resource; Concept of diversity and its manifestation through an analysis of the structures of power and privilege, taking into account the personal life situation of the students; Open and internalized prejudices and presuppositions; Fundamental value systems and issues such as gender, ethnicity, spirituality, sexual orientation and disability; Incorporation of Gender and Queer studies including the perception of oppression in the personal and professional environment

Learning outcomes

The students are capable of recognising the impact of individual difference categories in a pluralistic society (gender, age, ethnicity, etc.); are able to analyse their effects on social work and can reflect upon this with reference to their own biography; can recognize the positive role that diversity plays in society as well as within the workplace through an expansion of their understanding of the subject and improving their ability to recognise pertinent themes and issues through the continual use of personal reflection.
