What does the degree programme Social Work have to offer?

There is a balanced combination of theory and practice throughout the six semesters of the full-time study programme. Self-directed, experiential, cooperative and problem-oriented learning and corresponding teaching and learning methods, including project work, case studies, roll playing and simulation games, exercises, coaching, excursions, academic work e-learning, supervision and biographical work are all aspects that are brought to use.

Through select areas of activity and case examples, you acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes that clarify the typical, the legitimate and the comprehensive interconnections of social work.

Your degree programme has an international orientation: guest students from partner universities around the world, the opportunity to complete a semester in an institution in another country, short term study programmes and more are available to help you acquire intercultural competences. English in integrated as a language of instruction.

Intensive communication between teaching staff and students and enhanced cooperation among students are important factors that support your ability to criticise, reflect and argue. 

The degree contents are aimed widely, qualifying you for a career in any of the classical fields in social work. As a graduate, you are able to meet the challenges of a wide range of areas and are qualified for professional prevention, mitigation and solution of social issues.

Collaboration with research

Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences (FH Vorarlberg) is one of the most research-intensive universities of applied sciences in Austria. Studies and research are closely linked at FH Vorarlberg.

The Social Work degree programme supports you already during your studies to have access to research and development. The courses are designed to be closely linked to the field of research in Social and Economic Sciences at FH Vorarlberg.
