Incoming exchange students - spring semester 2021

Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences welcomes exchange students also during the spring semester 2021. We would like to assure you that our university will do the utmost possible to realize safe exchange experiences in Austria, also during the upcoming semester.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting travel restrictions, it might not be possible that all exchange students will be able to get the necessary permission (visa/resident permit) for entering Austria.

Students who need a visa and/or residence permit for entering Austria:

  • The Federal Ministry of the Republic of Austria for European and International Affairs currently informs as follows: “In context with the efforts undertaken to contain the spread of COVID-19, the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs has decided to largely suspend all client facing services, including immigration matters such as visa and residence, at the Austrian representations abroad.”
  • This means that currently not all Austrian embassies/consulates abroad are issuing visas/residence permits for exchange students. As the COVID-19 situation in the different countries is changing permanently it is necessary to check individually and regularly if it is possible to apply for visas /resident permits at the Austrian representations of the concerning country. Please therefore check this link for updated information regarding the current situation, as well as the individual website of the Austrian representation in your home country.

Students with European citizenship or students who do have a ‘student residence permit’ for another European country:

  • For students from some specific countries quarantine requirements and/or a negative molecular-biological SARS-CoV-2 test might be required when entering Austria. The International Office will inform all exchange students individually in case this should be required at the time of arrival.

Teaching at Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences during the COVID-19 pandemic:

  • As it is not possible to predict how the COVID-19 situation will develop, please be aware that it might be necessary to offer distance learning or a combination of on-campus courses and distance teaching.

The team of the International Office will keep all exchange students informed about the current situation and also provides individual support in all matters.
