Game Changing Games? – Playfully Creating Impact

InterMedia Bachelor and Master degree programmes at Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences cordially invite you to join our first international week organized from 25 to 29 May 2020.

Aiming at the encouragement of sharing ideas and best practice examples which are related to impactful games, we are currently looking for proposals for talks and workshops.

The complexity of global challenges is constantly rising. How can designers address these complexities to drive societal change and create promising future visions of sustainable co-existence of human and ecological systems? Creating games that motivate people to engage with a topic playfully could be one way of making them understand and experience societal issues.

But can we change the game with games? Taking this question as a starting point, this international week will focus on, but is not limited to the following questions of analysis, design and application of games:

  • Game Cultures
  • Playful methods in future design (e.g. speculative design)
  • Approaches to and methods of game design
    • Designing digital games, urban games, social impact games, serious games, mixed reality games, alternate reality games
    • Design and implementation of social interaction in games
    • Game content and design considerations to evoke motivation
  • Creation of immersive environments and affective infrastructures (e.g. for exhibitions and/or in the museum context)
  • Motivation to play vs. motivation to change beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors

Invited contributions consist of a lecture and a workshop part and can include various media formats (digital media, film, audio). BA and MA students from the InterMedia BA and MA programme will join the courses.

Staff of the International Offices of our partner universities are also very welcome to take part in our International Week. We offer a separate programme for these colleagues. Details can be found in the programme section below.
