Robust decisions in uncertain times

Companies today are under a lot of pressure: supply chains fluctuate, markets are changing rapidly and new regulatory requirements are emerging at ever shorter intervals. "Scarcer resources increasingly require risks and uncertainties to be factored into business and management decisions," explains Michael Hellwig, Head of the Josef Ressel Center at the FHV's Business Informatics research center. His team develops methods that enable companies to make reliable, data-based decisions even in volatile situations.

Research for industrial practice

Research at the JRZ focuses on modern AI and optimization methods that are tailored to specific industrial issues - from production planning and quality forecasts to ESG analyses and stress tests in the financial sector. Together with partners such as Hirschmann Automotive, Hypo Vorarlberg, valantic BTT and myPEX, practical solutions are developed, and the center is characterized by its consistent focus on real business challenges. "Research only develops its full value when it enables reliable decisions to be made in practice," emphasizes Dr. Günter Unterleitner from myPEX. The results of the JR Center range from prototypes and decision models to algorithms that make production processes more robust or strategic risks quantifiable.

In addition to applied research, RODEC also makes important contributions to international science. In the field of evolutionary optimization, the JR Centre sets new standards, for example by designing test environments for algorithm development under the influence of uncertainty. The JR Center achieves international visibility through publications, university collaborations and contributions at leading conferences.

With its focus on data-driven decision support, it strengthens regional Business and Management and sets impulses that attract attention far beyond the region.
