In the Bachelor's degree in Computer Science - Digital Innovation, you will learn how to develop innovative, digital products and services in order to open up new markets and customer groups, solve Business Administration challenges and optimize business processes. Contents of studies / Curriculum
The 180 ECTS are divided over six semesters - including compulsory subjects, electives and bachelor's thesis - as follows
Elective area Computer Science: In semester 6, you choose 2 electives (5 ECTS each).
Innovation elective area: In semester 6, you choose 2 elective seminars (3 ECTS each)
ECTS: Credit points according to the "European Credit Transfer System". In accordance with international standards, 180 ECTS points must be earned over 6 semesters.

Professional practical training as a supplement to your studies
The professional practical training is anchored in the curriculum in the 4th and 5th semester.
There are various ways to complete this coursework or provide proof of it.
Crediting
You can have the professional practical training credited if you are employed in a company in a relevant field and can provide proof of project work of at least 6 months with an interim certificate that shows the duration/scope and type of relevant work activity. Since the training agreement is agreed for the duration of the 1st - 5th semester and you are therefore working in a relevant field, you do not have to complete a professional practical training.
Completion
You complete a professional practical training in a company during the 4th and 5th semester or between the 4th and 5th semester. The professional practical training must comprise 250 working hours.

Admission to the final examination
To register for the oral final bachelor's examination, you must
- have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum and the bachelor's thesis must have been graded positively.
Studying and working: yes, it's possible!
Studying part-time is both challenging and very rewarding. The mix of on-campus courses, e-learning units, self-organized learning and group and project work allows you to combine studying and working well. Of course, this requires a high level of discipline, consistent time management and a corresponding agreement with your employer. Ideally, you should be employed between 50% and 80% and plan around five vacation days a year for your studies.
These measures will enable you to achieve a good work-life balance:
- Courses generally take place on two fixed days between Monday and Wednesday (from 1.10 p.m. - 9.25 p.m.), these can change per academic year.

In addition, the degree entitles you to pursue a master's degree in a university of applied sciences or university in Germany or abroad. At the FHV, we offer master's degree programmes in Computer Science, Business Informatics and Business Administration. Building on this, a doctorate or PhD course at a university is possible.

Access and application
The Bachelor's degree in Computer Science - Digital Innovation requires the following qualifications and abilities:
General higher education entrance qualification:
- Austrian school-leaving certificate or vocational school-leaving certificate or
- corresponding certificate of university entrance qualification or
- Equivalent foreign certificate (e.g. Abitur) or
- Certificate of completion of at least three years of study at a recognised domestic or foreign post-secondary educational institution or
Relevant professional qualification with additional examinations:
- completed vocational secondary school (at least 3 years) or
- completed dual training (relevant Austrian apprenticeship) or
- German entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences and Swiss vocational baccalaureate
The programme director decides on subject relevance. Applications with relevant vocational training must pass the additional examinations at the FHV. You can find more information on how to study without a Matura here.
B2 language skills in German and English (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). You can find more information here.
As an application with less than 5 years of relevant work experience (IT or Business and Management) or no relevant or no work experience, you can complete a training agreement with a company. Since the training agreement is agreed for the duration of the 1st - 5th semester and you are therefore working in a relevant field, you do not have to complete any professional practical training.
The training agreement with the company must be concluded and submitted by the end of the application period at the latest. Proof of completion of the training agreement must be provided by the beginning of the 6th semester.

Application for the academic year 2025/2026
Applications are possible from November 15 via our online application:
Application deadline I from November 15 to March 1
Apply by March 1 and benefit from an early confirmation of your place
Application deadline II until May 31
You can submit regular applications for all degree programs until May 31.
Application deadline III until August 31
Some degree programs still offer individual places until August 31.
Important information: The application deadline for applicants from a third country (non-EU or non-EEA, with the exception of Switzerland) is March 1.

Two steps to your desired degree program at the FHV:
Stage 1:
Assessment of your complete application documents, your previous education and experience.
Stage 2:
In a personal interview, we find out more about you, your goals and your motivation for studying.
All applications that pass stage 1 will be admitted to stage 2. The best 30 applications will receive a place at university.
Special regulations: As a high school graduate from a higher vocational school (HTL, HAK), individual courses can be recognized individually during your studies. You will receive details about this in a discussion with the programme director.
