In the InterMedia Bachelor's degree programme, you will develop creative, conceptual and technical skills for designing modern communication solutions. You will learn to plan, design, implement and analyse content in a targeted and cross-media manner – from graphic design and audiovisual media to digital interfaces. Interdisciplinary thinking, hands-on project work and academically grounded methods prepare you for complex challenges in the media and communication sector.
Upon graduation, a wide range of career paths will be open to you – in agencies, media companies, cultural or educational institutions, as well as in the business world. As a professionally trained intermedia designer, you will work at the intersection of strategy, design and technology – in areas such as user experience, content creation, media production or digital communication. You’ll also have the option of pursuing a Master's degree in Austria or abroad.
Note: The scope and titles of the courses are currently being revised as part of the further development of the programme. Changes will take effect from the 2027/28 academic year. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the programme administration or programme director.
The 180 ECTS credits are distributed as follows over the six semesters, including compulsory modules and the bachelor's thesis.

TU: 1 teaching unit corresponds to 45 minutes.
Courses and examinations take place:
- Usually Monday to Friday
- Students may engage in activities outside of their studies in accordance with the timetable
- Mobility window: Possible in the 4th semester
- Internship: Professional internship (at least 10 weeks) between the 4th and 5th semesters
- Admission to the final oral examination:
- all courses in the curriculum must have been successfully completed (examination regulations and grading scale) and
- the Bachelor's thesis must have been graded positively.

Career perspectives
With a Bachelor’s degree in InterMedia, you will have access to a wide range of career opportunities in marketing, advertising and communication – whether in agencies, industrial companies, the cultural sector or education. As an intermedially trained designer, you will work at the intersection of design, technology and strategy, turning creative ideas into targeted solutions.
Typical career paths for graduates include: UI/UX designer, content creator, communication specialist, video editor, motion designer, exhibition and spatial designer, visual designer or digital media all-rounder. You will conceptualise and design both digital and analogue media formats, develop visual communication solutions, create interactive user experiences or stage content in physical spaces. Your versatility makes you a valuable asset in interdisciplinary teams.
The academic degree “Bachelor of Arts in Arts and Design, BA” qualifies you for further Master’s studies at universities or universities of applied sciences, both in Austria and abroad. At FHV, we offer the advanced Master's programme Design and Creative Leadership for further specialisation. Building on this, doctoral or PhD studies at a university are also possible.

Access and application
The Bachelor’s programme InterMedia requires one of the following qualifications or competencies:

General university entrance qualification, or
-
Relevant professional qualification with supplementary examinations
A relevant professional qualification for this programme includes the completion of any apprenticeship, vocational secondary school, commercial school, or their international equivalents, with a training duration of at least three years, or a comparable vocational qualification in terms of scope and requirements, provided that the curriculum includes creative, economic, or technical components.
The relevance of the qualification is determined by the programme director. Applicants with a relevant professional qualification must successfully complete the supplementary examinations at FHV.
For admission, proof of language proficiency at level B2 in both German and English (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is required.
The application deadlines at the FHV are divided as follows:
Application deadline I 15th November - 1st March
By applying by March 1st, you will benefit from a faster confirmation of your study place
Application deadline II until 31st May
You can apply for all degree programmes until 31st May.
Application deadline III until 31st August
Some degree programmes still have a few places available until 31st August.
Note: The ultimate application deadline for all applications sent from third countries (non EU or non-EEA, with the exception of Switzerland) is 1st March.

Proven academic achievements that have been completed in master's degree programmes at colleges and universities can be recognized on an individual basis for individual courses or modules. The decision on recognition lies with the programme director.
