Master programmes at FHV:
The Bachelor's degree programme in Mechatronics requires the following qualifications or competencies:
- General university entrance qualification, or
- Relevant professional qualification with additional examinations
For this degree programme, relevant professional qualifications include the completion of any apprenticeship or vocational secondary school programme with a training period of at least three years, or a comparable vocational qualification in terms of scope and requirements, in the fields of technology, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, as well as related areas such as paper or chemical industries.
The programme director decides on the relevance of the qualification. Applicants with a relevant professional qualification must successfully complete the additional examinations at FHV.
For admission, proof of language proficiency at level B2 in both German and English (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is required.

- For the part-time / dual study format, we recommend working 70% of full-time hours. You should also allow for around five days of annual leave per year for your studies.
- For the full-time format, student jobs alongside your studies are possible, depending on your timetable.
For the part-time / dual study format:
- In the first three semesters, classes take place on Fridays and Saturdays.
- In the fourth and fifth semesters, classes for the specialisations may also take place during the week.
- In the final semester, classes are mainly held on Mondays.
For the full-time format, classes generally take place from Monday to Friday.
The main difference lies in where you work and how your studies are integrated with your professional life.
Study abroad:
- A semester abroad is possible in the 5th semester, depending on the availability of places at partner universities.
- Short-term study abroad opportunities are also available, for example through RUN-EU.
Internship:
- A compulsory professional internship in the 6th semester (minimum of 40 working days).
Yes, a double degree is possible as part of the Mechatronics bachelor’s programme through a partner university. You study at two universities in different countries and, upon successful completion, earn two academic degrees. This gives you international study experience and strengthens your career prospects in the global job market.
Yes. You can study Mechatronics even if you have no prior technical knowledge or an HTL qualification (a higher technical college diploma). The programme offers additional practical lab sessions and optional support modules to help you gain hands-on experience step by step. While these do not replace technical vocational training or a specialised HTL education, they help you build confidence in practical tasks, for example in laboratories or during work placements over the summer.
- Successfully complete all courses in the curriculum (Exam regulations and grading system).
- Receive a passing grade for the Bachelor's thesis.
Upon successful completion of the degree, you will be awarded the academic title Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSc).
- Qualification level according to the national and European Qualifications Frameworks: Bachelor's degree (first cycle)
- Field of study according to ISCED-F: 0718
