VCÖ Mobility Award: FHV Honored as a Partner of VMOBIL Rad Dornbirn

The VMOBIL Bike Dornbirn was recognized as an exemplary project at the 2026 VCÖ Vorarlberg Mobility Awards. The FHV is a partner in Vorarlberg’s first bike-sharing system and provides space and stations right on campus. Sofie Bayer accepted the award on behalf of the FHV.


Through its commitment, the FHV supports sustainable and flexible mobility for students, staff, and visitors. The bike-sharing system is integrated into the existing VMOBIL mobility system. Anyone with a VMOBIL Klimaticket or an Austria Klimaticket receives a 30 percent discount on the rate. The bike-sharing system perfectly complements public transportation; for commuters in particular, it’s a great way to cover the last mile from the train station to work by bike, for example.

Sustainable Partnership

And the 100-day report shows that the VMOBIL bike has been well received by the public: 437 people have already used the service, with 1,420 rentals. Additionally, 1,142 people have downloaded the VMOBIL bike app. In total, there are now around 100 bicycles available at 26 stations throughout Dornbirn. The partnership underscores the FHV’s commitment to actively promoting sustainable mobility in everyday university life.

For Tobias Gorbach, a graduate of the master’s degree programme in Mechatronics at FHV, it was vibration engineering that captivated him even while he was still a student. Contextual Studies gave him the opportunity to pursue this fascination—from project work to his master's thesis and on to his doctoral dissertation.
