About the Speaker

Jo will discuss his diverse practice as a composer, performer, producer, teacher and facilitator, working in collaboration with artists, ensembles and communities. This session will explore a unified model of practice, stemming from a clear sense of artistic identity and authenticity and which is flexible and responsive to the specific context of the work. Jo will draw on his work with Drum Works CIC, Guildhall School of Music and Drama and independent label WW Records.

Jo is a composer, producer and bass player, co-founder of WW records and Artistic Director of Drum Works. His composition credits range from commissions for the BBC to collaborations with Choreographer Tom Dale and Brian Eno. He works internationally as a tutor of cross arts/cultural collaboration, specialising in live electronic music, and has helped to establish courses in Japan, Singapore and the Netherlands. He is the lead professor of Popular Music Production at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

Jo releases his own music under the name Old Man Diode on WW Records, with contemporary music ensemble Jetsam and has an extensive production discography on labels including Gold Panda, Test Card Recordings and Clay Pipe Music.
