Quasi-intelligent assistants and robots are increasingly permeating our work and living space. Instead of controlling, we are beginning to cooperate with technology. In our coexistence, we almost ascribe human intelligence, emotions and liveliness to these things, but they are something else.

The question arises how technology can and should be designed beyond a naive human imitation when it has its own agency. Using examples from design education and research, the talk will focus on the interaction with robotic things between the physical and the non-physical, the rational and the irrational.

Andreas Muxel is a professor of "Physical Human-Machine Interfaces" at the Faculty of Design at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences, where he heads the "Hybrid Things Lab." Previously, the InterMedia alumnus worked, among other things, as an interaction designer at the "MARS-Exploratory Media Lab" of the Fraunhofer Institute, is co-founder of the studio "Neoanalog" in Cologne and was also professor for "Interface / Interaction Design" at the TH Cologne. His projects at the interface of design, art and research have been widely published, exhibited and awarded internationally.
