"Mom, just try it"

11.05.2025
When children empower their mothers: Anna-Katharina and her mother Tatjana Nardin are both studying at the FHV. For Mother's Day, she wishes her: "That she enjoys this path - with all the opportunities that this education brings for her."

At the age of 49, Tatjana Nardin fulfilled a long-cherished wish and began a bachelor's degree in InterMedia at the FHV. This was a complete career change, as she had previously worked as a surgical nurse. Her 23-year-old daughter Anna-Katharina will soon be completing her part-time Bachelor's degree in Engineering and Management at the FHV and will then start her Master's degree in International Business Administration with a specialization in Marketing, Sales & Innovation. Tatjana looks back: "We sat together in the evening and talked about study stories. I thought to myself, that's really cool. My children motivated me and said - just give it a go." Anna-Katharina adds: "When your daughters started studying, you saw that so much is possible. And you asked yourself, why can't I do the same? That was the shift in thinking."

Perfect time to study

Tatjana had actually been thinking about starting university for a long time. "But I thought to myself, how am I supposed to do that?" Last year, the opportunity arose to make a new career start. "After many years in nursing, I started my own business as an energetic therapist. I work in emotion and anxiety management and have created my own website. In the process, I rediscovered my creative streak. Now the time had come to devote myself to my wishes," explains the Schwarzach native. She then enrolled at the FHV - at the last minute before the application deadline on May 31.

Mutual support

"There was a very nice interview and I had designed a flyer. At first I was on the waiting list, but in the end I was accepted," says the happy mother of two. "It's really cool, albeit intense. Of course, I'm the mom of the year, but I've been very well received by the young people. We support each other on different levels. And it's really fun," says Tatjana enthusiastically. Her daughter Anna-Katharina, who initially worked as a design engineer at Blum and recently switched to product management at the Höchster fittings manufacturer, fully supports her mother's decision to study full-time, as does her sister. "Mum was always there for us and was also working. She was always continuing her education. I hope that she now enjoys this path - with all the opportunities that this education brings for her."

University for everyone

The Nardin family spends Mother's Day at a cozy brunch. Perhaps the FHV will also be a topic of conversation, as both of their daughters' friends are studying Computer Science and Engineering and Management at the FHV alongside Tatjana and Anna-Katharina. A family university for everyone. The FHV wishes all moms a happy Mother's Day!
