Bonfires in the Lake of Constance region
"Driving out winter" in light of scietal transformation
The project, funded by Interreg-ABH-VI and carried out by FHV Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences in cooperation with the vorarlberg museum, the University of Konstanz (DE), the Zurich University of Teacher Education (CH), and the Graubünden University of Applied Sciences (CH), aims to highlight the diversity of “fire traditions” in the Lake Constance region and to raise awareness of the value of diverse cultural heritage for social cohesion.

Project decription
Once every year in the Lake Constance region, it’s time a special occasion when bonfires are set ablaze throughout the region, thrilling young and old alike! The project aims to convey the diversity and complexity of these transregional “fire traditions” through equally diverse formats, inviting the public in the “DACH region” to reflect on their living cultural heritage.
Through traveling and pop-up exhibitions, artistic works, workshops, educational materials for schools, social media posts, media coverage, and more, the project brings diverse forms of knowledge—craft-related, aesthetic, organizational, historical, and more—to light. In doing so, it fosters a transregional and intergenerational dialogue and strengthens cultural diversity in a broader cultural region surrounding Lake Constance.
