Drone-based search and rescue operations in alpine areas and regions

This project is co-funded by the European Union and the participating Member States through the Interreg VI-A Alpine Rhine–Lake Constance–High Rhine programme.

DRAGR develops innovative technologies to support cross-border search and rescue operations in alpine regions. In collaboration with partners from research, technology, and emergency services, the project develops drone-based communication solutions, AI-powered thermal imaging analysis, and an interoperable data-sharing platform, which are tested and validated in real-world operational scenarios. The aim is to strengthen cross-border cooperation between emergency response organisations and make search and rescue operations more efficient, safer, and future-ready.

Project objectives:

• Develop AI-powered drone solutions for alpine search and rescue operations
• Strengthen cross-border cooperation between search and rescue organisations
• Establish an interoperable platform for secure data sharing
• Test and validate the developed technologies in real-world operational environments
• Develop recommendations for the legally compliant use of drones and AI
• Create sustainable cooperation structures across the Alpine Rhine–Lake Constance–High Rhine region
