Ecoprofit recertification: How the FHV lives sustainability

01.06.2026
Ten years of commitment, ten awards: The FHV has once again been recertified at the 30th anniversary of Ökoprofit. The ceremony took place last week at the Zumtobel Group's Light Forum in Dornbirn. Manuel Kanitsch from the Ökoprofit team and Beate Pawle from the sustainability department accepted the award.

212 companies in Vorarlberg are now Ökoprofit-certified. This year, six companies were honored for the first time by Marco Tittler, State Councillor for Economic Affairs. The FHV is one of those that has been involved for many years and has now been recertified for the tenth time.

Green campus, sustainable mobility and more

Ökoprofit supports companies and organizations in systematically implementing sustainable measures in their operations. The focus is particularly on Energy, waste, water, mobility and emissions.

One of the most recent and tangible examples of climate protection in action is the exterior design of the campus. In the Sägenplatz area, 20 existing parking spaces were removed and converted into climate-resilient recreational areas. A total of over 100 trees were planted on the campus. This has created places that promote biodiversity and at the same time offer a high quality of stay. Sustainable mobility is also a top priority on campus: Bicycle parking spaces, the climate ticket for employees, an electric company bike and the new V-Mobil rental bike station are just a few examples of this.

"The topics of Energy and mobility certainly have a particularly large leverage in the context of Ökoprofit. At the same time, many other ideas and smaller measures have been developed over the years, which together have a great impact," says Manuel Kanitsch, delighted with the renewed certification. These include the green roofs and insect hotels as well as standard double-sided black and white printing, the annual collection for the Ö3 wonder bag or the organization of events according to the standards of "ghörig feschta".

University as a role model

The FHV sees sustainability as a holistic task with the aim of thinking about and anchoring it ecologically, socially and economically in all areas of the FHV. "As a university, we also see it as our responsibility to set an example and provide impetus. Ökoprofit helps us to consistently continue on this path," adds Beate Pawle from the FHV's Sustainability Office.

What is Ökoprofit?

Ökoprofit is a practice-oriented environmental and climate management programme of the state of Vorarlberg for companies. It combines ecological measures with Business and Management benefits. Through workshops, individual advice and exchanges between participating companies, potential for saving Energy, resources and costs is identified and implemented in a targeted manner. The aim is to anchor sustainable Business and Management in everyday company life and at the same time strengthen competitiveness.
