Study Visit of the Interreg project Innovation as a Service 4 Danube Region

08.05.2026
On February 18 and 19, 2026, the Business Informatics research center hosted the two-day study visit of the Interreg project "Innovation as a Service 4 Danube Region" (IaaS4DR). Over 30 participants from around 15 European countries accepted the research center's invitation both on site and online.

The Interreg project IaaS4DR aims to rethink and sustainably strengthen innovation support and technology transfer in the Danube region. The project focuses in particular on industrial, rural regions with potential in innovation capacity. Capacity-building measures, new cooperation models, technology and learning transfer, as well as access to transnational expertise are intended to support local innovation services. The study visit to the FHV provided a central platform to present the progress made so far in these areas and to further deepen cooperation within the international consortium.

Workshops, exchange and best practices

The participating project partner organizations took the opportunity to continue working on current topics of the transnational project. The focus was on workshops to finalize the transnational accelerator with a total of nine pilot projects on the topics: Smart Integrated Spaces, Smart Integrated Services, Open Innovation, Deep-Tech and Transnational Collaboration. The focus was also on the further development and establishment of the learning platform, which the consortium has already successfully developed. Exciting presentations by project partners on the use of artificial intelligence in the development of start-ups rounded off the event.

Experience innovation: Visit to WISTO and Startup Vorarlberg

A highlight of the program were the keynote speeches by WISTO Vorarlberg and Startup Vorarlberg in the Postgarage Dornbirn. There, the participants were given an insight into the regional innovation and start-up landscape. The inputs from Diana Eglseder from Startup Vorarlberg and Mathias Bertsch from WISTO provided valuable insights into funding mechanisms, startup ecosystems and innovation processes in Vorarlberg. The international guests took part in the subsequent Q&A session with great interest and benefited from the impetus for their regions and projects.

Focus on exchange and networking

On the evening of February 18, the exchange continued over dinner at the Panoramarestaurant Karren. The hospitality offered by the FHV and the coherent program in cooperation with the lead partner Technical University of Košice (TUKE) enabled professional exchange and intensive discussions about the project. The study visit was therefore an important milestone in the course of the project. The diversity of the institutions represented - from innovation agencies to universities and regional development organizations - once again showed how broad the network of the IaaS4DR project is.
