What is the essence of your job as a university lecturer, and what fascinates you about it?
On the one hand, it’s essential to keep developing and stay up to date in your field of expertise. That’s a challenge, but also a privilege. Being able to engage with new developments time and again and discover new things is very important to me. On the other hand, I value the interaction with students. Being a lecturer today means working on an equal footing with students and acquiring new knowledge together with them.
Which trends in your field do you find particularly interesting, and in which areas are you particularly involved?
Digitalisation is fundamentally changing the way we teach and learn – it’s important to me to keep up with the latest developments in this area. I often find myself asking a fundamental question these days: how should teaching be adapted in light of the possibilities and opportunities offered by artificial intelligence? Which topics still make sense today, and which ones will be needed in the future?
What would you like to instil in your students, and what should they bring with them?
Students must demonstrate a willingness to work hard, to work meticulously and to think critically. I would like to instil in them the understanding that they should not prioritise their own degree over that of their fellow students, that they should show humility in the face of others’ achievements, and that they should be committed to lifelong learning.
