Strong impetus for breast cancer prevention: EU representative visits the FHV

28.07.2025
Clara Menasseyre from the European Commission’s DG Regional Policy visited FHV, learned about the MammAware project, and discussed digital breast cancer screening with Human-Centred Technologies researchers.

The aim of the project is to use digital technologies such as virtual reality to raise awareness of breast cancer prevention and create barrier-free training paths in healthcare. Project partners include Krebshilfe Vorarlberg, Discovering Hands (D), Klinikum Friedrichshafen - Brustzentrum Bodensee and Kabetec (D). A particular focus is on qualifying visually impaired and blind women as medical tactile examiners.

Particularly pleasing: Clara Menasseyre took the opportunity to see the digital applications for herself and tested the current state of virtual reality technology for breast self-examination on site.

"The visit to the FHV was a very enriching end to the day for me. Thank you and your team once again for the warm welcome and the exciting insights. It is impressive to see the commitment and innovative spirit with which you drive your projects forward."

She also praised the project itself as exemplary for European cooperation:

"The MammAware project is an example of how European cooperation saves lives through Interreg. It combines technological innovation, practical research and inclusive training paths to make a powerful contribution to breast cancer prevention. Projects like this clearly demonstrate the added value Europe brings to people in a very concrete way - cross-border, innovative and very close to the needs of women."
