"Touching people in their living environment"
07.07.2025She is dedicating her master's thesis to the topic "Hey you victim" - non-violent communication cultures among children and young people in the social space of school". The HTL graduate in an interview about her motivation for studying, her personal and professional development and her only plan in life.
Why did you decide to study Social Work at the FHV?
Hatice: Because I realized early on how much it means when someone is there to listen without judging. In my environment, I saw how people are left alone in difficult life situations. Even though all they really need is someone who believes in them and supports them. I wanted to understand how I could help without losing myself in the process. For me, it's not about "saving the world", that would probably be too much to ask. For me, it's about making a difference in everyday life. Honestly, humanely, at eye level and without judgment. Social Work gives me the opportunity to do just that.
If you had to describe your studies in three words or hashtags - what would they be?
Hatice: #MakingTheInvisibleVisible #VoiceForTheLeast #SeeWithYourHeart
How did your studies develop you - both professionally and personally?
Hatice: Even before my studies, I sensed many things intuitively - when something wasn't right, when people needed support, even if they didn't say so. Studying at the FHV gave me the necessary knowledge, but also the professional skills through academic training. Due to the high value of the course, I not only learned how to help. I have also been given a voice that is listened to.
What career prospects do you see for yourself after graduation? Do you already have concrete plans or goals?
Hatice: The degree opens up all kinds of possibilities for me: Social Work in research and theory, lecturer, continuing education or in the social fields of action of children, youth and family. What I particularly appreciate about studying Social Work is the wide variety of possible social fields of action. This allows me to focus on my strengths and interests. I don't have any concrete plans. The only plan I've ever had in my life is a "do it now" plan!
What advice would you give prospective students who are considering studying Social Work at the FHV? Is there anything you wish you had known before studying?
Hatice: If you're thinking about studying Social Work at the FHV, then you probably already have something very important inside you: the desire to really meet people. You will be dealing with social issues that are sometimes uncomfortable, but important. The course is more than just a career start, it is a journey to social issues and also a journey to yourself. At the FHV, you don't just learn the theory of how social systems work. You gain experience and grow through real challenges. You will realize that Social Work is challenging, but also fulfilling. It will make you doubt, but also surpass yourself. If you are ready to learn with your heart, mind and attitude, then this degree course is just right for you.
Thank you very much for the interview.
