Prerequisites for incoming students

 

  • Bachelor's degree from a recognised Higher Education Institution.
  • Enrollment in a Master's programme at the time of the exchange semester.
  • Master's level knowledge in social work science and applied quantitative and qualitative social research (at least 2 completed semesters of Master studies in Social Work).
  • English at least Level B2.

Regular Courses

 

Master's Thesis

The possibility to complete a Master's Thesis at FH Vorarlberg depends on the availability of an appropriate topic and thesis supervisor.

Exchange students who are interested in writing their Master's Thesis at FHV should get in contact with the responsible exchange coordinator early on during the application process.

 

Contextual Studies

Incoming master’s students may choose up to 6 ECTS from our Contextual Studies programme – a selection of interdisciplinary electives designed to broaden academic horizons and encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration. As most courses involve group work and interactive formats, active participation and regular attendance are expected.

Please note: Contextual Studies courses will only run if a minimum of 9 students enrol. Final confirmation of course availability will be provided in December 2025. Should a course be cancelled or oversubscribed, students will have the opportunity to choose an alternative elective.

The following contextual studies courses are avaialbe in English language during spring/summer semester 2026. 

 

What are Contextual Studies?

German Language and Austrian Culture Courses

These courses are scheduled weekly and run over the full semester.

  • German for International Students I (3 ECTS)
  • German for International Students II (3 ECTS)

    Exchange students may choose one of the above German courses. Please note that due to scheduling constraints, these courses are not available to students enrolled in the Computer Sciences – Digital Innovation (IDI) bachelor’s programme.


  • Exploring Austrian Culture and Values (3 ECTS)

    This course is open to all exchange students, subject to timetable availability. Students from the Computer Sciences – Digital Innovation and Social Work bachelor’s programmes are guaranteed to have no scheduling conflicts and can freely enrol in this course.
