RUN-EU @ FHV: Games build bridges - bringing the future to life

15.05.2025
How can playful methods convey serious social issues? Two RUN-EU programmes at the FHV showed how students from all over Europe used serious games and prototypes to develop innovative solutions for the future.

After three weeks of intensive online preparation, 28 students from RUN-EU partner universities traveled to Dornbirn to work together on a special project as part of the Short Advanced Program "SeGAR": the development of serious games for people with dementia. The aim of these games is to specifically promote and playfully activate the cognitive and physical abilities of users.

Support from connexia.at

In a lively and practice-oriented week at the FHV, concepts were designed, programmed and modeled - accompanied by Peter Hoffmann (FHV), Moises Moreira (IPCA), Walter Ritter and Andreas Künz (both FHV). The teams received valuable input on the target group from Daniela Eggert from connexia.at, who contributed her expertise on the needs of people with dementia.

At the end, the results were tested. "The atmosphere was excellent, making learning and teaching fun," summarized Peter Hoffmann. The barbecue organized by the RUN-EU Student Council at the beginning of the week also promoted exchange and community - and laid the foundation for a productive atmosphere.

Company visit to Getzner Textil

At the same time, a second international group of 28 students immersed themselves in the future topic "Future Explorations". How can we master future challenges? How can we promote sustainability through smart technology and well thought-out design? The participants tackled such questions in interdisciplinary teams - in a practical and future-oriented way. Highlights of the week included a company visit to Getzner Textil in Bludenz, an inspiring biomimicry workshop in the Fohramoos nature reserve and intensive work on the development of visionary prototypes.

The program was accompanied by Margarita Köhl, Natasha Doshi, Thomas Lippautz and Hansjörg Kappeller (all FHV), as well as Nina Kyber and Ville Siipola (HAMK) and Vincent Tillema (NHL Stenden). Natasha Doshi drew a positive conclusion: "It is very motivating to be part of this international collaboration and to contribute to a new generation of learners. We are already looking forward to our next edition in spring 2026."
