What has shaped your interest in the social sciences?

I spent 20 years developing and coordinating international development and humanitarian aid projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America. I have also repeatedly implemented regional development projects in Vorarlberg and the Alpine region. This experience has given me an understanding of the global challenges of our time and possible local solutions. In the spirit of Kurt Lewin, who once said: "There is nothing more practical than a good theory", I can now apply the experience I have gained in the field of community development to empirical social research and from there feed it back into community-oriented projects and organizations.

You are involved in community development. What is that?

Community development is a strategy for the participatory development of local and regional areas in cooperation with the local population. Community development is a democratizing, bottom-up approach to promoting disadvantaged areas and groups.

What interests you as a researcher?

I am interested in interdisciplinary research approaches in the field of community development with approaches and methods from Social Work, Social and Economic Sciences and International Development. I am particularly interested in applied research projects with a stimulating and participatory character.
