Nursing symposium at the FHV

15.05.2025
As part of the care symposium at the FHV, experts shed light on the various effects of a stroke.

Suddenly everything is different: this time, the nursing symposium at the FHV was dedicated to the diverse effects of a stroke and the associated challenges for the family support system. Diana Brodda, program director of the Health Care and Nursing Bachelor at the FHV, and lecturer Michaela Burtscher, opened the program.

Numerous nursing staff, medical professionals and interested parties discussed the effects of a stroke on the family support system and highlighted interdisciplinary solutions.

"The event impressively demonstrated how important a structured care process and a multi-professional approach are in order to strengthen families holistically after a stroke. In addition to professional input, the afternoon also offered space for exchange and networking," Burtscher and Brodda summed up in unison.

Practical insight

Michaela Burtscher introduced the topic based on a specific patient case. The medical perspective was presented by Dr. Philipp Werner, followed by a practical application of the Calgary Family Assessment Model, which provided valuable insights into family dynamics and existing resources. Johanna Kaufmann, a qualified nurse (DGKP), explained the importance of clearly defined care goals for the family system and shed light on the still young profession of community nurse and its potential in care planning. In addition, Sandra Alfare and Petra Ilg showed how case management can provide professional support to affected families. Professor Dr. Inge Eberl, Head of the Institute of Nursing Science at LMU Klinikum, focused on the potential of family-centered care. The event concluded with a panel discussion.
