Circular economy in peripheral urban centers in Central Europe

The urban centers of the peripheral regions of Central Europe lag behind the central areas in the field of innovation and business development. This is due to the lack of access to global innovation processes and partners, as well as the failure to exploit local innovation potential. In the EU, the circular economy (CE) has been recognised as a development concept that aims to provide sustainable, resource-efficient development on the one hand, and a large innovation pool for new technologies, services, solutions and business models on the other (EU action plan "Closing the loop"). The biggest challenge is in cities, where most resources are consumed (water, materials, energy, food, etc.) and most emissions are generated (waste, air pollution, energy waste, wastewater, etc.).

Project-specific goals

  • Harnessing the innovation potential of the circular economy in cities by creating the organizational framework for the circular economy - as quadruple helix nodes of the circular economy,
  • Enabling and facilitating circular economy innovation processes in cities by building knowledge and providing tools,
  • Increasing the innovation and business potential of circular economy hubs through a common framework for RIS3 CE implementation to facilitate the establishment of transnational value chains (CE circles)
