In this practice-oriented, technical course, students are introduced to central tools, processes and techniques in the field of media production. As part of the design studios, they are introduced to key techniques, tools and processes using examples and gain initial experience through exercises. The course forms the introduction to the field of design and aims to raise awareness of creative approaches and create a common basis. These knowledge and skills are applied in combination with the knowledge and skills acquired in the course "Design Fundamentals 1" in the course of the course "Design Project 1" on the basis of a defined project topic in projects in small groups.
Every student goes through Design Studio 1-6.
- Design studio 1: Postdigital
In this studio, students get to know digital imaging and publication processes. It introduces digital imaging tools such as raster and vector software applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat Pro for exploring 2D and time-based presentations. - Design studio 2: photography
This studio provides an overview of the basics of analog and digital photography. The participants are given an initial understanding of composition, shape and color theory and stitching methods, the appropriate use of lens filters, portrait photography and product photography. - Design studio 3: moving images and video
In this course, students are introduced to the basics of video production and editing in order to work with their own videos as well as found footage, screen recordings and simple animations. - Design studio 4: sound design and music
As part of this studio, students are introduced to the technical, aesthetic and artistic aspects that occur in the design, recording and processing of audio and music. - Design studio 5: interactive systems, interfaces
In this studio, students are introduced to concepts and techniques for developing interactive applications. An initial examination of interfaces, mechanisms and control elements of interactive work takes place. - Design studio 6: Virtual and Augmented Reality
The aim of this studio is to introduce the students to applications of VR and AR, to introduce them to the techniques of 3D modeling, visualization and animation, and to introduce them to existing libraries and their possible uses.
- The students have a general overview of the current technologies, know usage parameters and areas of application.
- The students have a basic technical understanding of the available media and media programs.
- They are able to name, explain and use essential concepts and methods as well as corresponding software, tools and devices of media production and processing.
- They know the corresponding design options and design examples.
- The students know the potentials and limitations of the individual media (technologies).
In the course, lecture and exercise parts are combined.
