Course content

This course focuses on the in-depth treatment of selected chapters from international and European environmental law:

  • International climate and environmental agreements
  • European and national regulatory framework
  • EU directives and regulations for climate and environmental protection
Learning outcomes

The course imparts professional and methodological skills (F/M), with a focus on international environmental law, in particular international climate protection agreements as well as environmental legislation at European level. The students

  • know selected international agreements on environmental and climate protection
  • know the main features of the history of European and international environmental law and can explain its systematic approach
  • are familiar with the process of legislation at the European level
  • have an in-depth insight into selected aspects of European environmental legislation
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
  •     Lecture with integrated exercises
  •     Case studies, presentation and interactive legal debates
Assessment methods and criteria
  • Evaluation of the completed exercises (in class, 20%),
  • Oral final exam (40%) and
  • Oral presentations by the students together with a written summary (40%)

For a positive grade, a minimum of 50% of the possible points must be achieved across all parts of the examination.
