FH Vorarlberg is one of the top universities of applied sciences in the area of research in Austria. Applied research and experimental development is primarily undertaken in collaboration with regional businesses and organisations as well as with international scientific partners. This means that the research is oriented to the needs of companies and institutions or from industry. The knowledge arising from the research projects in turn benefits the economy. The University is thus a key knowledge centre for the regional economy.
The research portfolio of FH Vorarlberg: In addition to the work carried out at the three research centres, "Microtechnology", "User-centred Technologies" and "Process and Product Engineering", FH Vorarlberg is actively undertaking research in the fields of "Social Sciences and Economics" and "Energy".

The research centre for User Centred Technologies deals with the design of technology and media for people. We support the development of new products and systems in order to satisfy the needs of society and minimise the limitations of users.
The Process- and Product-Engineering research centre deals with the creation, application and transfer of innovation. Experts work in three groups, namely Mathematics, Computer Sciences and Economic Sciences.
