Course content

The course “Scientific Work 2” conveys basic analytical skills with regard to design-relevant issues and
acts as a bridge between the courses "Design Fundamentals 2", "Design Techniques", "Methods of Design Research" and "Design Project 2", as the knowledge gained is brought together and analyzed again here.

The focus is on analysis and interpretation as components of the design research process. There is an examination of doing as a form of thinking and writing as a form of doing in order to cross the boundaries between practice and theory in the sense of praxeological research in the field of design and to support a productive transfer between the individual courses.

Learning outcomes
  • The students are able to evaluate observations and research material (present as audio, image or moving image and / or text document).
  • They have basic knowledge of the relevant evaluation methods (qualitative content analysis, grounded theory, typological analysis, subject-related theory formation, sequential analyzes, documentary methods, descriptive statistics, etc.).
  • They will be able to specify the requirements of a design project based on the analysis of documented observations and research material.
  • They know the conventions of scientific writing.
  • They are able to present the derivation of knowledge in written form in a comprehensible manner.
