RUN-EU launches the FILS HUB in Bruges to promote STEM talent among young people
24.06.2025What is the FILS HUB? It is a network of centers at the respective partner universities that offer tailor-made programs to impart STEM skills (Mathematics, Computer Science, Natural Sciences and Technology) specifically to pre-university age students. The aim is to promote the future skills of young people in our regions at an early stage - in line with the mission and vision of RUN-EU. Fadi Dohnal from the FHV provides an insight: "The new format is called MINKT LabZ. Supported by international partners, we are initially using the regional network consisting of the FHV and inatura Erlebnis Naturschau to enable exciting MINKT formats for young talents from the age of eight up to upper secondary school. Another building block for strengthening STEM expertise in Vorarlberg."
European skills agenda
This hub is in line with the European Union's "Pact for Skills", a central initiative of the European Skills Agenda, which was launched in 2025 to prepare European citizens for the major challenges of our time: ecological change and digital transformation. The activities developed at the various FILS HUB centers are aimed at children and young people aged 6 to 17 and their teachers. Through practical, creative learning experiences - such as workshops, challenges and hands-on activities - the aim is to strengthen their skills, promote social innovation and awaken their interest in a more sustainable, technology-oriented future.
International and regional network
These learning spaces are not isolated - they are closely integrated into the local environment of each university, often in cooperation with schools or science education institutions. The participating centers include Taste - Food and Tourism Education (TUS), Centro de Ciência Viva do Alviela - Casoscópio (IPLeiria), Future Innovation Lab (IPCA), Design Factory (HAMK), Challenge Lab (NHL Stenden), MINKT LabZ (FHV), Mind and Makerspace (Howest) and La Estación de la Ciencia y la Tecnología (UBU).
RUN-EU thus reaffirms its strong commitment to education as a driver of change, bringing together young people, teachers and communities through the power of knowledge and international cooperation.
