Course content

The teaching of the basic rules of professional conversation techniques and the opportunity to implement them in practice situations strengthens the ability to analyze and act in both the personal and professional spheres.

We may not consider our way of speaking as "violent", yet our words often lead to hurt and suffering, both for ourselves and for others. Nonviolent Communication (GfK) helps us transform the way we speak and the way we listen. Habitual, automatic responses become conscious responses. We are encouraged to express ourselves honestly and clearly while giving our resprective attention to others. The course offers students an introduction to the basic concepts of verbal and non-verbal communication and familiarizes them with various communication models.

Learning outcomes

Students gain an overview of the most important aspects of non-violent communication. They are able to apply the basic methods and expand their command of these methods in independent study. Students have an understanding of how - with the help of non-violent communication - they can shape their lives, relationships and environment in accordance with their values.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Individual and group work, internet research, multimedia lecture (possibly film)

Through various exercises students analyse and reflect on everyday and professional communication patterns and refine their reading of body language. Students have the opportunity in the group to examine their own communication patterns and styles as well as those of others, to discover communication traps and to improve their communicative competence when interacting with others.
